Basic Repair Homestead
Call Us: 727-228-3350

When homesteading and building your own house, having a pickup truck is nearly essential! Our Chevy Silverado 4×4 truck that we bought for a few hundred dollars (not running) is getting closer to running. The fuel pump is out – doesn’t work and we need to replace it. The fuel pump replacement is a time consuming repair, but really not too difficult. We checked with Napa Auto Parts and their price was exorbitant for a new fuel pump. Nearly as much as we paid for the truck it seemed. When you shop for auto parts, it pays to shop around. The Chevrolet factory fuel pump was not one we even checked on – we just don’t buy parts from the dealer.
The kids wanted to do the repair so they got the tools out and removed the gas tank from the four wheel drive pickup truck after draining the old gas from it. Each one using the correct tool – or as close as we have to it – they removed the fuel pump from the gas tank, put the new Purolator fuel pump on the bracket and closed it all up once again. While neither one may ever choose to be a mechanic, they will both know how to do basic auto repair on their own car – or pickup truck as the case may be. The old truck we have is a Chevrolet C2500 Silverado four wheel drive with an auto trans. Not really our first choice, but it is what we can afford. And it will be worth more when we have it running than when we bought it as a used car.
We did start the engine after replacing the ignition control module by priming the fuel injection with gas. We know it runs, but did need a fuel pump. Now it has a new fuel pump also 🙂 It still needs spark plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and an oil change (all lubricants really).
