more water pipes are breaking today–including more at aps schools. joe vigil is live in the newsroom with our big story. we just found out that at least a dozen aps schools have experienced recent water pipe breaks–and the damage is in the tens of thousands of dollars. take a look at this mess as zuni elementary off claremont and san pedro. a pipe burst inside a portable building… and was really leaking when we showed up around noon today. and it’s not just schools seeing damage …up on copper near tramway a water pipe burst at the palazzo apartment complex. a resident who lives here says people heard some type of loud boom. and arrived to a big mess. “we just got done running and the whole kitchen was, and the dining room, water was just coming down.” at coronado elementary firefighters tell us a pipe burst inside a closet where a water heater was stored. they say the leak was quickly stopped and damaged was limited to that closet. this is the second busted pipe here in 24 hours. we were also just told that albuquerque high, atrisco heritage academy and number of middle and elementary schools have sufffered broken water pipes. we are shooting new video right now we’ll have that tonight at ten. and a-p-s maintenance crews spent a good part of the day yesterday cleaning up even more water line breaks at other albuquerque schools. four inches of water flooded some science classrooms at cibola high school yesterday afternoon. repairs there could cost up to 40 thousand dollars. and up to 50 gallons of water a minute was gushing at ernie pyle middle school as maintenance crews rushed to fix a water line break there. as joe mentioned – at coronado elementary school a pipe that burst around 6 last night burst again today. and at mckinley middle school… water that had flowed out into the street quickly froze over. a-p-s says some students may be put in other classrooms when school starts this wednesday but so far no classes will be canceled. the cold weather is to blame for classes being cancelled at a santa fe area charter school tomorrow. turquoise trail charter school will be closed after a water pipe in the school’s ceiling broke. several classrooms were flooded and the heating unit was damaged. administrators tell k-o-b eyewitness news 4 they cleaned up most of the mess yesterday, but can’t hold class until the heater is fixed
