http://gradschool.marlboro.edu/: Lauren Koch, Malawi Reforestation and Micro-Enterprise Program Model for Toleza Farms (MBA)
Toleza Farms, a socially-driven commercial farming enterprise in Balaka, Malawi, whose mission is to alleviate poverty by developing sustainable entrepreneurial communities, is piloting a reforestation program with local villages to ensure the existence of a sustainable source of firewood.
This capstone project expands the opportunity of the reforestation program to include microenterprise development for women in the villages. In unique partnership with Toleza Farms, the women can produce and locally sell several products derived from the reforested trees to supplement household income and improve quality of life.
This capstone project analyzes the microenterprise opportunities and provides strategic implementation recommendations for the reforestation and microenterprise program based on a SWOT analysis to support shared value creation.
