A boat silicone bond together boat small parts of a boat

Weathered, decayed, and rotted areas are the major reasons for water leak problems in boats and other water-based vehicles. Boat owners before have used different method to eliminate these problems- methods that require so much time and effort to do. Fortunately for you, you don’t have to use any of those time consuming methods and only need to have an excellent boat repair sealant to get rid of the same problems.

Boat or ship repair sealant as others would call it is a sealant product commonly made either of silicone or Polysulphide substances. Each of these sealants has specifically recommended applications, but both can be very effective in eliminating water leak problems in boats quicker and easier than when other methods are used.

Silicone-based Sealants

Most boat Silicone-based repair sealants for usual need to have a minimum thickness and be kept under compression to work properly. Also, most of these sealants must only be used in above-the-waterline applications such as bedding compounds and sealing of flooring and deck materials.

Arbosil marine silicone sealants are silicone-based sealants that aside from fulfilling the basic purposes of a silicone-based sealant, which include bedding compounds and sealing of flooring and deck materials, can also be used for sealing of fillers, parquet flooring lamination, as well as bonding together small parts of a boat or a ship.

Arbosil 1096 is a silicone-based sealant that we highly recommend for your boat or ship use. This is a one part Low Modulus Neutral Cure Silicone Sealant which cures on exposure to moisture vapour to form an elastic silicone rubber. It may be used to seal and fill in cracks on weathered, decayed, and rotted areas to prevent water leaks.

Polysulphide-based Sealants

Polysulphide-based sealants, for many boat sealant users, are the best sealants for boats and ships use because these sealants can be used both above and below the waterline. Meaning they have wider range of uses compared to silicone. They are also ideal for teak decks, bedding deck and hull hardware, sealing thru-hull fittings, and underwater seams for emergency repairs, and or on damp surfaces. The only drawback with these sealants is that they may chemically react with and degrade many plastics, and this why they are not to be used on ABS, PVC, acrylic and polycarbonate boat materials.

Sealant 2150 is a Polysulphide-based Marine Sealant that we recommend for you if you choose polysulphide-based. You can use it to fill cracks on areas that produce leaks on your boat, and you can use it for more other applications above or below the waterline.

Once you have your boat repair sealant, regardless if it is silicone or polysulphide-based, simply follow its manufacturer’s instruction on how to apply it and you can say goodbye to your boat’s water leak problems, quick and easy.
