In the next 4 minutes I will explain how we use epoxy pipe lining to restore pipes for 50 years, without excavation, with minimal downtime, and costing less than half of pipe replacement.
Older structures such as High rise buildings and industrial facilities experience cast iron sewer pipes with cracks, potable pipes with pinhole leaks, corroded chilling and heating pipes, or clay pipes with repeated backups from tree roots. But Excavation for pipe replacement means tenants have to be relocated, production has to stop, and traffic has to be redirected.
However we have 2 technologies, that renew 1/2″-72″ pipes for 50 years, up to 700′ at a time, and it takes just a few hours or couple of days.
The first technology, called Cured In Place Pipe lining, is used when the host pipe severely damaged. Typically used in sewer lines, the pipe is first cleaned using high-pressure water hydro-jetting and possibly mechanical cleaning tools.
Next a long fabric tube is saturated with an epoxy resin, which self-hardens by exothermic reaction or is hardened using steam or hot water. The liner consists of several layers for installation, all of which are removed after a few hours of curing time leaving behind the rock hard pipe lining.
The resulting new load-bearing inner pipe is ready in just a few hours and only reduces pipe diameter by typically less than 5%.
The second technology, best described as “epoxy pipe lining”, is typically used in structurally sound pipes which are leaking or are being treated to prevent future corrosion. These pipes include small diameter potable water pipes, large diameter water mains, cooling or fire-suppression pipes, gas lines or large storm drains, just to mention a few.
Epoxy pipe lining in small diameter pipes starts by sandblasting the oxidation deposits out by blowing abrasive particles like silica through the pipes stripping all scale and rust off the surface.
Next a liquid food grade epoxy is blown through the pipe, covering all surfaces uniformly. Then heated air is introduced to cure the epoxy and finally a pressure test is performed to ensure all leaks have been sealed.
Epoxy pipe lining in large diameter pipes is similar, except the cleaning process uses mechanical tools that are pulled by winch through the pipe to scour the deposits, and then the epoxy is sprayed on using a rotating nozzle applying a computer controlled thickness throughout the pipe.
