The weather was very nice the day after National Train Day, so I decided to come out trackside and enjoy this weather. This time I chose the Conrail Shared Asset Operation (CSAO) Lehigh Line, at Bound Brook, NJ. I also had the pleasure of meeting Zach R. & Kevin M.
I didn’t expect much primarily because it was a Sunday, but there were some good stuff going through. Following a two-hour lull after NS 11J, intermodal trains NS 212 (with BNSF at second of three) and NS 20E (w/ UP at second of three) flew by. CSX traffic began flowing just before 11 AM starting with mixed freight Q410, unclogging the Trenton Subdivision. Action also occurred on the Port Reading Secondary with Z4K (Extra 64K) w/ two UP SD70M’s diverging onto the line.
The early afternoon to late afternoon hours were slow with mixed freight S410, intermodal Q190, intermodal I4Z (Extra 24Z) and juice train L140. By just before 5:30 PM, some busy action started with NS 290 (autorack & intermodal), which nearly hit an idiot trespasser. He passed by the platform and went straight for the ROW and took a seat in the gauge without even notice people yelling at him to get out of the tracks. Fortunately, NS 290 passed by on main 1 while the guy was on track 2 (he got off when the train blew at him). Then two westbound CSX’s went by (mixed freight Q301 and trash train Q703 with a blue CEFX). I ended the day with intermodal NS 20K, intermodal Q191 and NS 65K coming off of the Port Reading Secondary with NS SD40E and two UP AC44CW’s.
Not a bad day overall!
**Note: I’m really really NOT GOOD w/ train symbols. I try to get as many as I can through my scanner or asking other railfans around me (if any).**
