Ruler or Measuring Tape
The majority of your house heat is lost through your attic insulation.
You will need to make sure that when you’re measuring you get all the way to the bottom of the attic insulation. It is okay if you have to dig a little to make sure you touch the bottom to measure r-value.
R-value is your resistence to heat. Per inch cellulose insulation has an R-Value of 3.7 and fiber glass has 2.6-2.8 R-value. It is recommended to have an R-value of 50 for your attic insulation.
One of the easiest and most effective ways to increase your comfort and lower your utilities bills is by adding attic insulation. The cost of adding attic insulation is often offset by local utility rebates.
