Heat Pump El Portal

Kensa Engineering’s guide to filling and purging a ground source heat pump system.

A Kensa Technical Support Specialist, Rod Twist, provides a detailed demonstration and expert advice on the filling and purging process.

It is important for the correct operation of the heat pump that all the air is removed from the ground arrays before the heat pump is turned on. Failure to do this correctly can cause the heat pump evaporator heat exchanger to freeze and the heat pump to stop working. If this happens then the only option is to allow the heat pump to defrost by leaving it for at least 24 hours and then re-purge the ground arrays.

This video is part of a series of short movies, aimed at educating installers of ground source heat pump systems, or those looking to branch into installing the technology. 7.05 would a clear pipe fitting not help with this method, so you can see
the glycol reach the outlet and turn off in time.
