Is not one of the benefits of electric hot water heaters that it would be
much safer? No gas leaks, no fire sort of stuff? Also do the electric ones
    need any sort of exhaust?

  6. Tanarus20 says:

How can you tell the difference between gas & Electric. Gas always has the
exhaust pipe on top & pilot and all that other crap on the bottom right?

I had electric at my condo and just like he says the recovery time is bad.
If one of us had a hot bath and ran a hot wash the tank was empty and it
took hours to heat back up. With this house I have now we have a new oil
fired unit and man what a difference it takes minutes to heat the water
back up in the tank and you can hear it run and shut off. when it shuts off
the water is hot. It never runs longer then a couple mins at a time. Also
about Solar man we looked into that and it was crap. The guy wanted 11
thousand bucks to install and told us we still needed to run either
electric or oil water tank as a back up for days the panels do not collect
    enough energy.
