This video is to bring you a closer look at the Pemko 142D Dark Bronze Anodized Aluminum Residential Threshold.
This is commonly referred to as an interlocking threshold.
This model also features weep holes.
First, the 142 represents the fact that this is an interlocking threshold.
There is an image below this video showing you everything important that you need to know about this item.
This is a 4″ wide threshold.
5/8″ tall (top to the bottom).
The ‘D’ means this is in the dark bronze finish (the discoloration you see is just the lubricant they used when they were drilling the holes, it wipes off).
This item includes the interlocking hook strip (j-strip).
This piece gets nailed to the bottom of the door and once the door closes it mates together with the threshold.
This makes for an extremely positive complete seal.
These thresholds last for decades.
An important aspect is the undercut of your door.
If this is 5/8″ tall, you don’t want the undercut to be too much more at all because the width of the mouth of the hook strip is only about 3/16″.
You wouldn’t want your undercut to be about 3/16″ more.
This has a water return feature on this threshold.
In the trough of the threshold, if water were to get inside, it would pool inside and make its way out through the two drilled weep holes and eventually out through the notches made in the face of the threshold.
This is a very reliable system.
Screws in a complimentary finish are included as well as nails for attaching the hook strip to the bottom of the door.
The threshold is available in different finishes (gold and aluminum).
This is also available in custom lengths.
If you have a need for a custom length by all means let us know by ordering the next longest piece or pieces and indicating in the comment field what size you’d like for us to cut the item back to.
The reason for this is if you had to cut this 4ft piece down to about 40″, you’d eliminate that counter-sunk hole and the next one is farther down on the item.
If you order a custom length we will not only locate the hole in the proper dimension from the edge, but also the proper center to center as well.
The only part that sometimes needs to be replaced is the hook strip, and that does not happen often (these are very inexpensive).
This main reason these get replaced is due to unintentional damage (if you don’t have the right undercut, ect).
