UPDATE: June 28, 2012, 10:50 p.m.A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office tells CBS6 News the cause of death was electrocution. The Orlando CBS affiliate, WKMG reports the county cited the Holiday Inn Orange Lake resort for not having the water pump in the pond connected to a ground fault circuit interruptor, a breaker designed to cut the flow of electricity when there is an electical problem. The North Colonie Central Schools district put a statement on its website saying Jojo was beloved there and will be sorely missed. The district offers counseling for friends and classmates at the school Friday.——————————————————————-ORLANDO, Fla. — A Latham girl is killed in what appears to have been a bizarre accident in Central Florida. Orange County Sheriff’s deputies say Ashton Jojo was miniature golfing with her family on Wednesday when she cried out in pain after stepping into a 2-foot-deep pond to retrieve her ball. A man nearby heard Jojo’s screams and tried to rescue her. He was also injured.Jojo died shortly after arriving at Florida Hospital Celebration.The Orlando Sentinel reports that the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner confirmed electrocution as the cause of death. Inspectors say it appears that electrical breakers for the pond’s pump were improperly replaced and faulty wiring from a water feature may be to blame. Authorities say the Latham, girl turned 11 on Friday. She was visiting Orlando with her parents and a brother. Her brother was also checked out at the hospital, but apparently wasn’t injured.
