Trail cameras keep a watchful eye of what’s happening on your hunting property. These devices have become a valuable asset to any hunter as a must have scouting tool. Each year companies come out with new features on their trail cameras that give them better image quality, video, time lapse, battery life improvements and a host of other features. A camera that has basically everything you will need out a trail camera is the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD.

I think the best feature of the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD is definitely the battery life. Depending on the use, this camera will run for up to a year on 8AA batteries. I like being able to set the camera out for months on end and not have to worry about my camera dying. Obviously battery life will change depending on how you set up the camera. Bushnell recommends using lithium or alkaline batteries. The camera can also run off of just 4 AA batteries.

The next big feature is picture quality. The Trophy Cam HD will take clear pictures with up to 8mp quality. Capture mode can be set at intervals from 1 second to 60 minutes. Pictures can also be captured in 1, 2 or 3 image capture modes. Every image also has a time and date stamp and moon phase.

You can also change the name of the camera. Naming the camera helps me keep track of where all the cameras are on my hunting property. I usually name mine the same as the closest deer stand.

The Trophy Cam also has some features that allow you to get the best night time images possible. The camera has 32 low glow LEDs with 80 foot flash. This gives you very clear nighttime images. The low glow LEDs can be seen when the camera goes off. They just give off a small red light. This doesn’t spook any animals, but I probably wouldn’t get this model if you want to use it as a surveillance camera. Bushnell offers other models with no glow LEDs and a surveillance trail camera.

The flash can also be adjusted if you are taking closer images at night. Adjusting the flash helps keep images from being washed out. You can also adjust the night vision shutter to get crisper images. The shutter can be adjusted to help reduce blur in nighttime images.

In addition to taking high quality images, the camera is capable of recording 1280X720 HD video with. Video length can be set from 5 to 60 seconds. The video capability is a great feature that allows you to watch animal behavior and sometime you can capture some pretty neat video.

If you can’t decide if you want the camera to take pictures or videos, the Trophy Cam HD features a Hybrid mode where a picture and video is taken each time the sensor is triggered.

The trophy cam has a fast .6s trigger speed. The PIR sensor (what sets the camera off) can be set to Auto, Low, Normal or High levels depending on where you have the camera set. I just leave mine on auto and it does a nice job of not taking unwanted pictures. The PIR sensor also has a 60 foot detection area.

The Trophy Cam HD features Field Scan 2X. This allows you to set the camera to go off at preset intervals from one minute to 60 minutes. The Field Scan 2X allows you to set the field scan time for two different time frames. When I am using the field scan feature, I like to set the camera on our large food plot. This allows me to see deer activity on the whole field. I set my time frames for morning and evening times. A big feature of the Bushnell Field scan is that it still allows the camera to take live trigger images. This means that if a deer walks by in between the field scan intervals that camera will still take a picture.

For holding all of your videos and images, the Trophy Cam HD can accept up to a 32GB SD card.

Using the different features of the camera in the right setting allow this camera to be extremely versatile. The Trophy Cam HD takes high quality photos and videos and is a huge asset when scouting for deer. I know some people may look at all the features and get intimidated by them, but it is fairly easy to use. The camera is very easy to set up and using the different features has allowed me to scout more efficiently on my farm.

Quality: The camera is well put together and after several months outside it still looks and works great.

Reliability: The amazing battery life allows me to have peace of mind that this camera will keep on working. This allows me to leave the camera out for long periods of time without having to go check on it.

Price/Value: At around 0 this camera is packed with great features at an even better price.

Referability: I would recommend this to anyone that has property where they want to scout deer or other animals. The camera has lots of features, takes great images and is very reliable.
