Our well was not as good as we would have liked it to be and it was located far below our house on the homestead. We added a tank high above the house so we would continue to have water in the house in the event of a power failure. It was nice to know we always had 2,500 gallons of reserve water. The water was fed into the tank at the top of the tank and flowed out the bottom so there was always turn over in the tank to prevent stale water. The system worked quite well.
I must admit – it was a lot of work to get the tank up on the hill!
